SCORE Host Coaches Clinic in South Florida

Speakers at the South Florida Coaches Clinic
Had a great turnout for our coaches clinic at Highlands Christian Academy on Saturday. The overriding theme was to "lead well" we must "follow well". The speakers encouraged the coaches to lead with courage, character and an understanding of the great amount of influence they have on their athletes, other coaches and students. The principle of the "Lizard in the Palace"... it doesn't have much authority but it does have a great amount of influence. The coaches were challenge to be intentional about "positioning" themselves in a place to make the greatest IMPACT. The initial position starts with their relationship with Jesus. How closely are we following Him? The closer I follow the better I lead! The speakers were Mike Jarvis the Head Basketball Coach at Florida Atlantic, Steve DeBardelaben the Chaplain for the Miami Heat and the University of Miami, John Zeller the Executive Director of SCORE International, David Conrady the National Basketball Director for SCORE and Reggie Cook the Athletic Director at Highlands Christian Academy.

Shots from the Final Four with SCORE

SCORE again had a presence at this years Final Four in New Orleans. It is amazing to see how God is working on the hearts and in the lives basketball coaches today. Most "fans" think the Final Four is all about the games.... the Semi Finals on Saturday and the Championship Game on Monday. For coaches, there is a business component to it. They have various meetings dealing on changes to NCAA legislation that may effect recruiting or scheduling, etc.... The NCAA also provides opportunities for them to hear clinic instruction from some of the top coaches in the collegiate and professional ranks. For SCORE, it is an opportunity to connect with coaches we have partnered with in the past and to share the vision of our life changing trips with some new friends. Thanks to the Chattanooga Bakery for their generous donation of Moon Pies, which we used to draw in the coaches.

The Final Four is also a chance for coaches to reconnect with old friends. The NCAA ministry team provides many opportunities for coaches to attend events designed to pour into them, their wives, and their families. SCORE was blessed to be a part of several of these exciting ministry outreaches. It was great to be a part of an event that is intentionally pouring into the people that are growing our future servant leaders.
